Samul-Nori is a percussion instrumental music
which demonstrates a vibrant, powerful
and dynamic rhythm, this was originally farmers' music.
Samul-Nori represents the height of traditional Korean percussion music and lets you
experience a taste of the Korean spirit itself. Four instruments are played in
Samul-Nori(Samul means 4 music instruments, Nori means play): Kkwaenggwari,
Jing, Janggu, and Buk. |
 |
The sounds represent either the sky or the earth.
The metallic
and clingy in timbre (Kkwaenggwari and Jing) symbolize the sky and the Janggu and
Buk, due to the leather skins used to make the drums, stand for the thick and warm sound of the earth.
Each of the four instruments has its own symbol representing an element of nature.
The Kkwaenggwari represent lightning, Janggu rain, Buk clouds, and Jing wind. Played
ensemble, the four instruments create a sheer balance and harmony in music, mirroring
the Korean people's lives. |
