There are 418 modern tourist hotels in the major cities and tourist destinations of Korea.
In Seoul alone, a broad range of hotels, including 27 deluxe and 69 standard facilities, welcome overseas tourists.
Hotels in Korea are available in different levels of price and comfort. They are classified by an official rating system
according to size, service quality and conveniences into five groups : super deluxe(SDL), deluxe(DLX), first class, second
class and third class. The "Mugunghwa" (Rose of Sharon), the national flower of Korea, is used as a symbol of quality, with
five flowers being the top rating.

Tourist hotels charge a 10% VAT on rooms, meals, and other services, and include an additional 10% service charge on the final
bill. Therefore, tipping is not required. Some hotels include breakfast in their room rates. Yogwan room charges may go up
during peak travel seasons. On the other hand in yeogwans(Korean style inn),
Taxes or service charges are not added and tipping is not mandatory. And Youth hostels
charge on a per person basis. |
