| Drinking Etiquette |
| How to offer liquor |
When we offer a glass of liquor to a senior, we must hold a bottle with two hands;
To others, with one hand to show one's respect to the senior. It's like an etiquette
but we have a more original reason.
In Korea, there are very traditional clothes called Han Bok, which have roundish
sleeves. Whenever ancestors poured liquor into a glass, they used to hold the
sleeves not to leave them touch any food on the table. Now, we hardly wear the
traditional clothes at the moment except for in special days like New Year's Day or
Harvest Moon Day, the way we offer liquor is still alive.
Sometimes people exchange their glasses. When somebody offers liquor with his glass,
you are supposed to drink right away and offer liquor with the glass. |
| How to drink |
The younger should turn one's neck and hide around the glass with the left hand
not to show the drinking directly. It is also to show one's respect to the senior.
When people drink it with friends, juniors or quite young seniors, they don't have
to do like that.
